This August I will be presenting at a education conference about becoming a connected educator. One of the main ways I have done that is by joining Twitter. I know that many of the educators at this conference do not currently use Twitter. So I'm looking for help, please complete this survey and add specific testimonials or stories in the comments. Thanks!
To what degree has Twitter had an impact on your teaching?
I can't keep up with all the possible professional reading out there, so one way I use Twitter is as a filter for good articles and research. I follow #cpchat, #edchat, and #caedchat, along with some professional organizations and that helps keep me up to date in a shorter amount of time.
ReplyDeleteI didn't have many educators in my building that thought like me. I wanted to push students to learn AND understand what they were being taught. That means taking risks and letting them be in control of their learning at times. This isn't easy to do for educators. What I found on Twitter was a vast array of Educators with the same intent. The Educators on Twitter are more than willing to help anyone travelling down the road of a better learning experience for all children!
ReplyDeleteI am the only Social Studies teacher in my middle school. Twitter has become my professional development. I am now connected with hundreds of dedicated, passionate educators around the globe. We trade lessons, commiserate about the 'joys' of teaching middle school and bounce ideas off one another. I *always* leave a Twitter session with new ideas that are thoughful AND useful...! Find a hastag that fits the area(s) you teach and start reading what people have to say. See Jerry B's Twitter hashtag page for a start: http://www.cybraryman.com/hashtags.html
ReplyDeleteYou will be amazed!
Twitter is the best PD I have had since I started teaching. If I have a question or am having a bad teaching day my PLN will be there to lift me up. I have also been able to connect with like minded social studies teachers and we will converse on different issues that affect our classrooms. Twitter has been able to connect me around the world with educators.
ReplyDeleteI really liked doing Twitter chats for PD. You can do it from the comfort of your home, whenever, where ever. It is great! I do have to say that I don't utilize Twitter as much as I should. I need to do a better job.
ReplyDeleteI'm so new to Twitter it hasn't had an impact on me yet. The only reason I see it beneficial now is to use it as a communication tool with my students. I need to start to learn how to participate in twitter chats and then maybe I'll see it more useful.
ReplyDeleteI love Twitter! While the chats sometimes can be overwhelming and other times can feel unfinished (with the character limit), I love the ability to share and gather so many ideas so quickly! I have found so many resources and technology-based apps because of Twitter, not to mention brilliant educators to follow. I'm a huge fan and find it incredibly valuable as a PLN (personal learning network).
ReplyDeleteTwitter is the best! I love connecting with other educators and learning about their perspectives/ideas with education. Twitter chats have been extremely beneficial too. It has been fairly tough to get teachers in my district to see the power of Twitter, so I'm hoping that I can sway a few of them at our EdCamp next week with a Twitter session!
